Decrypt Links ,  If you are on twitter , like I am ,or another social network  you sometimes see a link like this (http://wp.me/rGac)  and it makes you wonder what that is , and is it safe, now many people do tweet or post safe links but somethings that’s not true. That exmple links happens to be for this site. But if you wanna check what that link fully is there’s a site for that,all you do is copy the link and paste to Decrypt links.com  it will show a preview page of the site . so if some one posts  ”here’s a picture of my pet Goat ” maybe check it first.  you can find that site here ( http://decryptlinks.com)

4.  GetPocket ,  Many times you run into an article you find interesting online and you wanna save that for later  , but instead of bookmarking or emailing yourself the link, there is another way.  Get Pocket  is a way for you to save an article for access to get it later. All you do is get a free account on the site .   You can  access the service  on your computer, iphone/ ipad,  android , Kindle Fire,Windows phone.     try it here (http://getpocket.com )

Twitter announced it’s newest project ,  Twitter #Music , it’s been speculated for a while that Twitter is launching a streaming music service.      It  has a stand-alone app on Apple’s Ios  ,and also on the web at music.twitter.com   . It works with I-tunes, Spotify , and Rdio  (though you will have to have an account with Spotify or rdio for that to work) .  Since it’s by Twitter it has social aspects too,  using trending music,  It also has emerging music, suggested music (songs it’s thinks you might like based of artists you are following) ,and   Now Playing which is  list of what those you are following are listening .

Though it seems that Twitter #music is not trying to compete  with other services because of it’s integration with Spofity and Rdio , but  if you have those accounts then why would need to use twitter’s?   Also, you have to be following artists on your  Twitter account to  use the #suggestedmusic option  would be a better idea to have in the music part of the service.

Hello spring !  It  starts on Wednesday the 20th  , I  love spring it’s my  favorite season for many reasons it’s time we say a new beginning the life of the trees and flowers are beginning again the birds are back.  So here’s something I like do  every thing spring , try something new.  Use this season do try something new , it’s like a New years’ resolution but better.  For instance , if you never tried French food , try it  or my  like me niece tried last year she tried a new sport , volleyball,  she didn’t like it but she did try for awhile.  I tried  to learn how to play the trumpet , but I think the birds and animals are happy I decided that wasn’t best.

Think of something you’ve been wanting to try , and it might be your new favorite thing and that’s a great feeling and will make  your spring feel great.  (WM)

Good Bye Google Reader

Ah Google what have you done?   Google announced part of “Spring cleaning” that Google Reader, that awesome service where I can check my RSS feeds all in one place, is  being closed in July.  It was launched back in 2005 is the best thing around even with Twitter lurking around. In the  the Google Reader Blog,  it was explained these as the reasons

There are two simple reasons for this: usage of Google Reader has declined, and as a company we’re pouring all of our energy into fewer products. We think that kind of focus will make for a better user experience.

I also find it annoying saying they are sad too like they had nothing do with it.  At the same time  they said the reason is declining useage , wouldn’t mean GooglePlus too ?    People like me are asking Google to change their mind but in case. I am going to have to find that alternative.

Now the shock  is over and just in case Google goes with their plans here are some alternatives : they aren’t the same but let’s make due.

First  , Netvibes  ,   they aren’t too bad ,  and the  free version is good enough and it’s cloud-based like Reader.

2nd    Feedly ,  they aren’t too bad either  now you need the Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox  extension , so IE and Opera users are out of luck , but it also works  in apps for Android and Ios.  It really does look good  though different than the reader experience .

3rd  Newsblur, does  a good job it also allows  you to upload your Google Reader feeds to it ,  so that maybe great to ease your pain.

4th   TheOldReader , remember when people got mad about google reader’s new look?  The Old reader exists it’s pretty good too  you can also sign in with your Facebook or Google Accounts and import your reader rss feeds.

 The Future Cook?

My son who is six and my wife love to watch cooking shows  together, they’ve been doing this for about 2 years.   In our house it’s me and my wife are the cooks changing days  back and forth.   My son says he wants to be a chef when he older,  we bought him a toy oven to play chef and make his special fake meals with us.   My wife lets him help when she is making , like getting the pot or pan  or putting something in the pan.    Also our blender his is friend he makes  some great  smoothies  with the random fruits in our house.

Many neighbor kids that know , think it’s awesome what he does , some others do make fun of him for it he doesn’t get bothered with them. I am glad that my son loves to try out things that makes him happy and maybe he will be a famous chef, but if not  that will be OK,  putting his mind to anything he could great things.

I also  must say, that one thing I learned with me cooking , is that cooking should is for both sexes since   sometimes  a man will be alone in life  so , he may need to know how to cook to eat.  (WM)

Daylight Saving Time

March 10, 2013 is when we once again do that silly ritual of setting the clocks ahead one hour. This is a actually a passionate thing  for many people  they are picky about their time.   Really since the Earth can’t be moved back and forth, it was made so we have some extra sunlight in the evening  so people would spend it outside  and not use energy. Honestly, if you live where summer is really hot, do you really want an extra couple hours of sunlight?  That’s probably why Arizona doesn’t do this ritual of setting the clocks a head.  There have been studies saying that setting the clocks  ahead  is bad for you health.  To those who don’t like it getting dark earlier in the fall and winter after the clocks go back , well that’s because  of the seasons itself  meaning it’s natural for less hours of sunlight.

This practice also may seem a bit old to save to energy, since many people are working indoors  and they are using energy  or going to school  and using energy so it may not matter  that the sun is up at  7pm or not in the case of energy.  If lights are turned on at the work place in the morning  and running all day , while at home the fridge is running all day , and other things running , that’s not really saving energy and then you get home and more is being used.  We are also creatures of schedule , well some of us are, so 9AM on weekdays , even if we set the clocks a head 1 hour , meaning we confuse our bodies because we are doing odd things at times to our bodies.

Also , If i check my sun dial   I can’t set  that an hour a head and what do you think I am going to believe the sun or some odd time practice?  Ok I really don’t have sun dial but you see my point.

Maybe one day we can have a time where don’t have DST anymore…. maybe one day. (WM)

Time in the past

” I remember back in the (insert decade here) when everything was better or simpler …”, We all have heard something like that , I have now caught my self saying “Back in the 80′s …”  I sound like my Grandpa   when I say ” When I was a kid  that cost $0.75″ which then again is a better than paying $1.50 for a soda I mean really.  We  humans are nostalgic, we love the best parts of the past or the time we grew up in was the best.   I  honestly can say that TV in the 1980′s was better than now , because  most of  the shows now are junk I mean there is no way to defend the right of  ”Storage Hunters ”  should ever be on anything that looks like a TV. I am not attacking the comedies and Drama’s on TV now but there was none of this odd reality show junk on TV at the time.

I do think cars from the 80′s  made me question the auto companies thinking.

  There is no way I can defend this , just no way , so the cars look a bit better in the 200o’s  though 50-70′s where some good looking cars.    But I do remember driving back in a brand new Dodge Caravan , My mother bought , she thought it was so cool until 1992.   The 80′s had some rockin’ music , but  it makes me  sad ,feel old or both when I hear 80′s music on an “Oldies” station , when did the 80′s become oldies?

We all love , looking back because it comforts us , about the time we lived in and the future is always a scary place , looking back shows how far we have come.  I do think that some things are better now than when I was in the 80′s but other things are worse  (cough : what the heck did they do to MTV?).

One day I’ll be the guy telling my grand kids that  when I was a kid , soda cost 75¢ when in the future at this rate it might be $2.65 , and when the penny used to be a coin ( yeah that’s going away soon just think about it) , that television used be fatter. While blasting 80′s music  from an old FM station , while everyone is listening to new hit music (maybe Polka will be the hit)  I can also tell the grand kids  stuff used to come in a box  by a person in a truck.    (WM)

The Future is out to get you

Ah the future looks so bright … well  let’s hope.  I remember watching TV shows and movies and how the future would have flying cars , time machines,  being able to fly and shop on the moon and planets, robots, and computers in your head.  These are  bad ideas.

First, Time machines,  I mean really  this seems like a good idea “I get to fly back in time ” but unless you just make it like a tourist thing but you can’t change anything in the past , it’s a bad idea.  There are people I am sure that don’t want me to have been born and giving them that power would be bad. Plus if I learned anything from tv shows with time machines , you  save  Lincoln’s life and for some reason we don’t have toasters.  Now if people were responsible with time travel , like the doctor on “Doctor who”  or we use my suggestion for tourism but you can’t change anything  that would be great, I would love to meet my great-grandma.

Second, Flying cars , NO…  many people have  a hard time driving on the ground , why would I want people driving in the air? Also as person who never wants to fly in the air I don’t want to have a pilot license just to go to the movies.  Plus really a flying car why?

Third,  computers in your head…  uh no thanks  Computers get hacked and viruses now , so why would I want that in my head?   Plus if we were meant to have that in our heads then we would be born with them .

Fourth, robots mostly because they creep me  out, unless we had one like Rosey the robot on “The Jetsons” but otherwise no way!  At first it seems nice for a robot to do things for you but then something goes wrong and they try to kill you. Maybe I’ve been watching too many movies.   (WM)

Stella as Elvis Costello , From The Omaha World Herald

One story that I Think fits well in our About Self sections of stories , we found this : A Girl named Stella Ehrnhart who dresses as different persons each day. Most of the people she dresses as are historical figures others famous the The Omaha World Herald reports.She’s been coming as  a different person each day since 2nd grade. She gets most of her ideas using a book called “100 Most Important Women of the 20th Century.”.  She’s also done more recent people like  Myanmar oppision leader  ,Aung San Suu Kyi, and people before the 20th century like Helen Keller and Harriet Tubman.

She spent her whole last school year  with no repeating costumes, this year she’s having a bit more repeating.

One day I was watching an episode of “Everybody Loves Raymond” , and realized that the program I was watching hadn’t had  a new episode since 2005 . Yet ,I still watch a show that hasn’t had a new episode  in over 7 years ,  Why? Do I others like me watch re-runs ? Cable was invented for re-runs  you have all these channels and what do many fill day with repeats of shows long since gone. Why do people like me still watch?  Some would say nothing else is on. I say because I love to see a repeat  it’s like seeing an old friend. Does that make me sound a bit crazy? Probably.

I think that watching a show that ran before is quite fun , I still laugh and cry at the right times. We humans are creatures of habits : so it’s nice to know that almost everyday a show is on at the same time , well besides the news.  Time passes on  but seeing these shows are comfort really. Seeing an episode of “The Brady Bunch”  it’s interesting to see how people dressed back then and what was the “hot” music at the time. Watching an episode of  ”Full House” makes me think people really dressed like that , oh the color.

Some ask me , why do I watch a re-run of  a show, some that hasn’t been a new episode for years on?  I ask why do watch a show that says it’s reality when it might not be?  Not to get me wrong I watch a lot of new comedies and dramas , I do stay away  from “Reality Shows”.  But when my shows that are new aren’t on airing ,  I go back to the warmth and fun of my re-run knowing that it’s always there for me.

Re-run TV to  me is like comfort food, so “Friends” is my Chili warms me up when I feel cold.   That know matter what is happening around me there’s an escape to a different world.  It also shows that my memory is working just fine or makes me worry when I didn’t remember that scene.   To think about it , when the shows that are new now , in about 10 years we may be seeing them on for hours on end and remember what  how we used to watch them.

If you are re-run TV lover like me and you even DVR repeat episodes of shows , so you can watch later. Don’t be ashamed : embrace it !  Yes there is nothing on… just like it.
